In Middle school PE class, those selected as captains chose students for kickball teams. One by one, they picked until one was left. There she was, last one standing—not chosen.
She worked hard to memorize lines of several roles for play tryouts. Scanning the list for her name, her stomach dropped. Though an extra, she was not chosen for any role she desired.
Disappointed, she tried out for track. She loved running, and it was a great way to relieve stress. She did her very best, but once again—not chosen.
After each disappointment, she came home discouraged and sad. Needing time alone, she slipped to her room to cry. Then her mom gently and lovingly reminded her of this truth:
“But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.”
1 Peter 2:9
As she read and pondered this verse, God whispered to her heart: “You are CHOSEN!”
Think about that! Almighty God, Creator of this world and every single thing in it, chose to create exceptional YOU! He loves you so very much that He chose YOU!
“You are a royal priesthood”! When we accept Jesus, we are both royal and set apart to serve God. We’re part of God’s family, a royal daughter. Just add princess before your name, but don’t forget to pray for others to join His Kingdom. He welcomes any and all who believe.
“You are Holy”! We’re worthy because of Who saves us and calls us to walk like Him each day.
“You are God’s special possession”! Special possessions are unique, extraordinary, and exceptionally made! We are each of these because God says so!
As God’s princesses and special possessions, we’re chosen for more than kickball, a role in a play, or track team! He chooses us as His exceptionally made daughters, to praise Him and tell others about Him. He pulls us from the darkness of sin into the light of eternity with Him. God desires His children to bring glory to Him every day, in every way, in whatever we choose.
